Classic neurofeedback is a method where sensors are placed on the scalp to measure brainwave activity (EEG).

The client gets real-time feedback (visual, auditory, or both) about their brain activity, and through repeated sessions, they learn to self-regulate brainwave patterns.

The idea is that by reinforcing healthier brainwave activity, symptoms related to attention, mood, stress, or sleep can improve.

Classic neurofeedback typically uses well-studied EEG frequency bands and training protocols, such as:

  • SMR training (sensory-motor rhythm, ~12–15 Hz) → often used to improve focus, relaxation, and seizure control.

  • Theta/beta ratio training → lowering excess theta (drowsiness, inattention) and increasing beta (alertness) in ADHD.

  • Alpha/theta training → enhancing creativity, deep relaxation, or trauma processing.

Benefits of Classic Neurofeedback

Core Benefits

Improved self-regulation

  • Helps the brain learn to balance its own activity, supporting better attention, focus, and emotional control.

  1. Non-invasive & drug-free

    • No medications involved, which makes it appealing for people seeking natural or complementary approaches.

  2. Long-lasting effects

    • Because it trains brain patterns through learning, benefits can persist after sessions end, unlike temporary effects of medication.

Physical & Wellness Benefits

Better sleep: Normalizes brainwave patterns associated with insomnia or irregular sleep.

  1. Headache & migraine reduction: Research shows decreased frequency/intensity in some people.

  2. Seizure management: One of the earliest uses (in epilepsy), with significant success in reducing seizure activity.

Emotional&Behavioral Benefits

  • Stress reduction: Trains calmer, more balanced brainwave patterns.

  • Anxiety relief: Helps quiet overactive brain states linked to worry and rumination.

  • Mood stabilization: Supports regulation in depression, irritability, or emotional reactivity.
